Kalamalka Rotary Club, formed on March 19, 1981, is located in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. The club is a vibrant and diverse group of 91 members that is committed to doing great things both locally and internationally. Among many deeds, the club carved a new trail in Kalamalka area and runs a scholarship program in Ethiopia to improve the lives of disadvantaged girls from rural and remote communities. One of its members is Patti Lefkos, who along with her husband Barry Hodgins spent three months exploring the Himalayas of Nepal and have since supported Sambhav Nepal.
The Rotary club is supporting Sambhav Nepal in rebuilding Devi Jal Kumari Secondary School in Aprik village of Gorkha. The school was completely damaged during the 2015 Nepal Earthquake. Even before the earthquake, the school which runs classes from kindergarten to class eight was in very terrible state. Patti visited the school in 2014 and decided to help in its reconstruction. The earthquake caused further damages resulting in need of larger fund and project delay. The first phase of the project will start in this September, can accommodate one third of the total number of students and will be completed by the spring of next year.
